Ford Chooses a Blind Man to Promote the New 2010 Mustang

I can honestly say that I've only driven a car once in my life. My dad let me drive in an abandoned parking lot when I was 15. Ever since that day I've wanted to get behind the wheel again, but of course no one will let me simply because my vision isn't so great. Well this month Roger Keeney of Athens Georgia got to live my dream. He entered in an essay contest put on by Ford asking mustang lovers to describe in 250 words or less what their Mustang dream was.

Roger's essay "Impossible Possibility described how he'd fumble in his pocket for car keys, press a button and wait to hear the beep that would help him find the car. At the car's side he'd fold up his cane, slump down into a leather seat, and peal away like other drivers do everyday."

Ford was so inspired by his essay that he won the contest. they payed for him to come out to Phoenix, and with a nascar driver by his side he got to drive the new 2010 Mustang 90 miles an hour.

As an advocate for the blind, Roger decided to share his experience with ten blind members of the Arizona Council of the Blind. He also made sure to talk to Ford representatives while he was there about the unreliable transportation problem that blind and other disabled people face in this country.

I think it's awesome that Ford gave Roger Keeney this chance to experience something that most blind people will only dream of doing. I think he will be a great representative for their promotion.

If you were given a chance to drive a car, which one would it be and why? If you got the chance to drive before losing your vision, what was the transition like for you?

  2. I let you drive the Kabota around the farm, that has to count a little.

  3. True, and it was fun. Maybe you'll let me do it again. Now if only I could drive something more than a couple miles an hour that would be awesome.
