The ScyFIX 700: A New Treatment for Retinal Disease

If you live in the European Union and you live with RP, you will have for the first time, a therapy that may save and/or restore your sight. Over 2 million people in the world, including myself live with a disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), a degenerative retinal disease that usually causes total blindness. Until now, there were no therapies to slow down progression, and certainly nothing that would restore sight.

A device called the ScyFIX 700 uses microcurrent neuromodulation. The treatment works by administering a tiny electrical current that stimulates the body's natural healing systems. In the companies study, 85% of participants had their field of vision increased or stabilized and 63% of participants had increased vision.

The treatment is only approved for people with RP for right now, but the company hopes that it will soon be approved for Aged-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) which effects 50 million people world wide. ScyFIX is also in the process of getting FDA approval so that people like me can have access to this technology.

Here is a link to a video describing how the ScyFIX 700 works.

I hope that this treatment will become available in the states. I know for me, the one thing I really miss is reading. If this device could restore my vision enough to read I think I would be really happy.

If you had this treatment available, what do you think it would be like to regain vision? What would you do if you could see again?

  1. Hi, I have RP but luckily not too serious yet. I also got excited by claims for ScyFix so asked my sister to comment - she is an eye surgeon and leading UK academic (honestly!) I qoute "haven't heard of the company but have looked at their website- it's a scandal really that they can put such claims forward with such little evidence- for example the only research supporting this device for RP was presented at ARVO (the main eye conference in America for research) in 1999, and there have been no publications of value on it ever. Also, the proposed mechanism of action is pretty far fetched. To say it will become the standatd treatment for other diseases such as ARMD is ridiculous. There are a lot of people out there who are very keen to make money out of people.
One of the consultants I work with, Paulo Stanga, is part of a trial into a new implantable device for RP- have a look at the website for Manchester Royal Eye Hospital under his name. I'll let you know if I here anyting about the new gene therapies for RP- I would have thought that is going to be the first viable treatment available, but they haven't done the trials yet in RP only Leber's (a worse form of retinal degeneration"
By the way the gene therapy trials in the UK are being done by Professor Robin Ali of University College London. My understanding is that, at a laboratory level, he is aware of how to treat RP but as yet needs to develop the specific "vector" and of course to perform the necessary trials.
Maybe the ScyFix could also help but I would say its too early to be sure - save your money for now and wait for proven science.
    Best wishes
    Mike

  2. My daughter is 7 and was just diagnosed with RP, is there anyone that has used the scyfix device that could provide feedback on their results?

  3. My recommendation is to look at the companies website and get in contact with them. The device is only approved in the european union right now, so if you live in the states, it is unlikely your daughter would have access to it. I would also heed what the other commenter said, and be aware that the device may not help your daughter. For me, I think the bionic eye is going to be a much better and real option to restore vision. If I find out anymore info about this device I will post it to the blog. Thanks for reading.

  4. Hi Alena,

thank you for your comment, I have looked at the bionic eye and it looks very interesting. I have contacted Scyfix and they feel with her being so young it could be a solution. They said that there have been some fantastic results with children. I would appreciate any more suggestions you may have.

  5. I purchased one for my uncle and it has had NO BENEFIT. Some google research makes me beleive it is a scam.

  6. I have been advised not to purchase the device due to insufficient testing on it.

I'm attempting to get her to take medication to assist in lowering the risk of degeneration but she is so stubborn she just won't take it.

I find this whole thing so frustrating, no matter how I explain the benefits she just wont take it..

Why could this had not happened to me instead?

  7. How bad was your uncle's vision when he started to use this product? How long did he use it? Do you want to rent it out?

  8. As a Licensed Acupuncturist in New Hampshire, I have had some very good results combining the use of the ScyFIX device and a specific acupuncture treatment I devised. The best results I've seen have been with patients with macular degeneration, but I've seen improvement with other conditions as well.

Some time ago I purchased five of these units. I have since come to realize that I only need two. I am willing to sell up to three of them for half the price from the ScyFIX.org site. Contact me at email@gentlecurrents.com.

I am not in the business of selling these machines ordinarily. I have no financial relationship with ScyFIX. These are good machines and are like new.

  12. (Sorry not to get back to you sooner -- I've been away.)

I don't mean to turn this great blog site into a sales site; but I do want to be helpful and answer the questions that most people would have.

The price on my ScyFIX 600 machines is $575 plus shipping. The unit will include 8 pads. It comes in the original carrying case and includes the unit, the AC power supply, the 2 wires, the instruction booklet, and the 8 pads.

Anyone interested is welcome to contact me directly (603-436-6883 or email@gentlecurrents.com).
