There are many things that I love about my mac, but Safari Reader has to be one of my favorites. I am an avid reader of online news, but until the release of Safari 5, reading news online was often cumbersome and frustrating. The problem is that many news websites don't make their sites accessible to screen readers, and even the ones that do often have ads or other stuff mixed in with the article that distract my reading and make me frustrated. The way Safari Reader works is that it extracts the text of the article you want to read, and then puts that text into it's own window. This means that you don't have to spend time hunting for the beginning of the article or deal with distracting ads or links in the middle of the article. It is a solution that benefits both the blind and sighted alike.
If you are a mac user and you want to use Safari Reader, simply use the key command, "Command, + shift + r". If the website is supported and there is a news article on the page than Safari reader will only show you that portion of the website. If you are a windows user, I urge you to tell the developers of your favorite web browser about this feature and how much it would benefit you if they could implement it into their software.
